Meet John Smith Jr., MD

Dr. John Smith, a native of Alexandria, LA, brings his expertise in cardiovascular medicine to CHRISTUS Heart & Vascular Institute. After graduating with honors from LSU and attending medical school at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Dr. Smith completed his residency in Internal Medicine at LSU in Baton Rouge. He furthered his training with a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the University of Texas.

Dr. Smith is board-certified in four areas: internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography. This extensive background allows him to offer comprehensive care, focusing on preventive cardiology, congestive heart failure management, and all forms of cardiac imaging. Driven by a desire to give back to his community, Dr. Smith finds it rewarding to improve the lives of his fellow Alexandrians.

When not at the forefront of patient care, Dr. Smith cherishes time with his wife and four young children. He enjoys running, golf, cooking, and cheering on LSU football.
