Meet Maria Pierce, MD
Dr. Pierce is a board-certified Perinatal-Neonatal Medicine physician. She graduated from the University of Michigan, Medical School and completed her Perinatal-Neonatal fellowship at the University of Miami. Dr. Pierce arrived at CHRISTUS Children's from Tulane Medical Center in 1997. She served as medical director of CHRISTUS Children's NICU for more than 20 years and currently serves as CHRISTUS Health's director of neonatology in San Antonio and New Braunfels.
Dr. Pierce's clinical interests are caring for infant's requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension, and Neonatal Transport. She has been an ECMO physician since 1993.
Her clinical research interests include premature lung disease and retinopathy of prematurity. She has published over 60 publications in peer review journals. When she is not in the NICU, she enjoys playing golf.
