Meet Tyler Stavinoha, MD

Dr. Tyler Stavinoha provides expert surgical and non-surgical evidence-based care for a variety of orthopedic conditions affecting the hip, knee, shoulder, foot, elbow, and spine. He brings unique experience in both sports medicine and hip preservation surgery, including performing hip arthroscopy and periacetabular osteotomies (PAO) for the treatment of hip dysplasia, to children and young adults in San Antonio and the Central Texas.

Dr. Stavinoha grew up in Central Texas, and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame, graduating with honors. He returned to Texas for medical training at the University of Texas Medical School - Houston. Following the completion of orthopedic residency, he served as clinical instructor at Stanford University School of Medicine and completed pediatric orthopedic fellowship training at the Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Stanford Children’s Health.

He understands the physical and emotional complexities of injuries in pediatric and young adult athletes and dedicates his approach to evidence-based decisions. He believes surgeons must care for not only each patient, but also their entire family throughout the process of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

Dr. Stavinoha is fluent in Spanish and has travelled extensively through medical partnerships in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Haiti. He now travels annually to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to collaborate with local surgeons to treat complex pediatric orthopedic conditions, as well as advanced surgical education in Central America.

Dr. Stavinoha’s areas of expertise include sports medicine, pediatric and young adult hip conditions, open and arthroscopic hip preservation surgery, scoliosis, and trauma and fracture care. The office visit was good. The doctor’s PA came in and asked questions and evaluated my daughter. Later the doctor came in and went over those findings with us and then did an exam of his own to verify those findings.
