Journey to Joy
To describe Michelle Carrillo's journey to becoming a mother as harrowing would be an understatement. After losing a son at 38 weeks, hyperemesis, placenta previa, and a 65-day hospital stay, Michelle welcomed her sweet baby girl, Camila, on April 7th at 34 weeks.
“I have made some pretty amazing friends [in the] registered nurses, doctors. And since day one, they have treated me like a queen. They [have] been very supportive, and I could not have done it without them, without the staff. Everybody was so good to me.”
With their newly upgraded Maternal and NICU designations CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – South was uniquely equipped to care for Michelle and Camila. For Michelle, being in the care of one of only 19 Level IV maternal designated facilities in the state of Texas and the first and only one south of San Antonio allowed her to stay close to her support system during her stay. For Camila, having access to our level Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit meant not only having the best possible care but being close to her family as she grew stronger.
Michelle feels called by God to help other women who have lost children and/or experienced difficult pregnancies, and still, have dreams of starting or growing their family.
