Prayers & Sacraments
Sacramental Ministry
Jesus Christ is alive today as when He walked the earth over two thousand years ago. There is life and power in His word and actions. God breaks into our lives in Sacraments.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Jesus appeared in Galilee proclaiming the Good News of God, "This is the time of fulfillment. The reign of God is a hand. Reform your lives and believe in the Gospel." Mk 1:14-15
We are body-soul people. While we seek a physician to heal our body, the Divine Healer waits to be allowed to mend the soul that has also suffered brokenness. This may be a good time to allow Christ the Reconciler to come and help us become a wholly healed person.
Sacrament of the Eucharist
"I myself am the living bread come down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread he shall live forever; the bread I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." JN 6:51
The hearts of the disciples were set on fire listening to the words of the stranger who walked with them on the sad journey from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Recognition of Jesus cam with the breaking of the bread. In the Eucharist, Jesus breaks bread with us and offers himself as food and nourishment.
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
"Is there anyone sick among you? The person should ask the presbyters of the church. They in turn are to pray over the one, anointing with oil in the name of the Lord. This prayer said in faith will reclaim the one who is ill and the Lord will restore the person to health. If the person has committed any sin it will be forgiven." James 5:14-15
In the past, this sacrament was known as the "Last Rites", and so people waited until the very end to ask for it. The correct hame has been restored and the fear at the mention of this sacrament is diminishing. In the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, Jesus comes to strengthen, heal and comfort us who are ill. It can also be received before surgery. The prayers said are for healing and forgiveness of sins.
A Catholic priest-chaplain is always available to offer sacramental ministry to Catholic patients. The area ministers are available upon request to offer sacramental ministry to other patients consistent with their denominational practices.
Prayer for Internal Healing
Most gracious Heavenly Father, I come to you in prayer today, seeking of and healing in personal relationships. It seems that circumstances, time and illness have driven a wedge between my loved ones and me. Father, I pray that you would first help remove all obstacles, poor attitudes, pride and selfishness from my broken heart, so that I may be free from the burden of broken relationships. I pray for my loved ones. May your spirit of love surround them. I pray that they, too would be freed from the pain caused by conflict. Grant all of us healing of relationships now and restore our love for one another. Amen.
Prayer for Physicians
I am grateful that you sent these physicians in my life with healing gifts. I do not expect any magic or miracle, but I do experience a calm reassurance in the center of my being when in their presence. It is miracle enough when these persons offer reassurance and hope, a willingness to listen and readiness to apply the healing gifts, you so generously share with them.
Grant these doctors the continuing skill and wisdom necessary to aid my body and my mind in its healing process. Be present in our journey together toward healing and wholeness. Amen.
A Nurses Prayer
As I care for my patients today
Be there with me, oh Lord I pray.
May my words be kind - it means so much
And in my hands place your healing touch.
Let your love shine through all that I do
So those in need may hear and feel you.
